Getting Started  >  HoloLens Setup

The Microsoft HoloLens 2 (in this User Guide referred to as 'HoloLens') is a Wireless Stereoscopic Head-Mounted Display which can be used for the visualization of stereoscopic images.

Follow these steps to setup the HoloLens with your Lumi account:

Before you start make sure everything is ready​

  1. ​You have a Lumi account

  2. You have a secondary email address ready (private or work)

  3. You have a phone number OR Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone to verify your account

  4. Ensure your HoloLens battery is charged to 40% or more

​

Follow these steps on a computer to setup your Lumi account

  1. Navigate to https://myaccount.microsoft.com and login with your Lumi account

    • Note: Microsoft might automatically use another Microsoft account on your computer, so ensure that you're really opening your Lumi account​

    • Tip: use 'incognito mode' in your browser if you have trouble accessing your Lumi account

  2. Navigate to 'Security Info'

  3. Add an email address (private or work)

  4. Add a telephone number AND/OR add Microsoft Authenticator for verification (recommended)

Option A: setup the HoloLens for the first time​

  1. Start your HoloLens, follow the general instructions and complete the wizard

  2. When prompted: 'Who owns this account?', select: 'My Work owns it'

  3. When asked to login with an account, select ‘Work or School account’

  4. Go to step 1 of 'Complete sign in on HoloLens' to complete login

Option B: add your account to an already activated Hololens

  1. Open the HoloLens

    • Note: the Device Owner of the HoloLens must be logged in first!​

  2. In the HoloLens menu, select the current logged in user (round person icon on top)

  3. Select 'Sign out' and sign out

    • In case the HoloLens starts scanning your iris, select 'Dismiss'​

  4. Select 'Other user'​

  5. Select 'Add account'

  6. Add an account with your Lumi.cloud credentials

Complete sign in on HoloLens

  • Note: During Sign in, the HoloLens will request to verify your account

  1. Select 'Sign in'

  2. Follow the instruction using a web login and sign in with your Lumi account

  3. Perform eye calibration

    • Note: Eye calibration should always be performed during initial use of the HoloLens 2 which is then stored for each individual user. However, you can recalibrate at any time through the HoloLens menu > Settings > System > Calibration.​

  4. Add your PIN code

  5. Use speech (recommended)

  6. Share location (not recommended)

  7. Follow further HoloLens instructions and introduction

View Holograms

We suggest that users tilt their heads to look straight at the virtual images through the HoloLens, rather than viewing them from the edges of the screen. Although the image quality is usually good, it might appear slightly distorted around the edges compared to when you're looking directly at the virtual images through the center of the screen.
